About us
The Self Build Homes Club has, as its main objective, empowering people to
build their own homes, although in most cases we mean commission tradesmen
or craftsmen and managing the project, as opposed to actually constructing it yourself.
We will achieve these objectives both by the provision of a lot of information,
via many web sites, and by the provision of services, to people who choose to
become a member.
This club, the Self Build Homes Club Llc, was set up at the suggestion of a number of other organizations and although a limited company registered in the
USA (Delaware) is an international organization, where no part of our objectives
are about creating profits. Our directors are unpaid and we have no staff
of our own, but use a system of commissioning through a support network set up by
another non profit organization. This support network then commissions services
as required anywhere in the world, using the best people we can. We started with
a major advantage, the help and support of a range of organizations with
international experience and other clubs and organizations keen to work with us.
The commissioning approach has a wide range of advantages,
including a larger percentage of funds being used to provide member
services, local support and contacts in many countries and expandability to meet
unknown needs. From the members perspective the international flavor of the club
is hardly noticeable, except when useful to them, as when looking at building a
home for vacations. Members are supported locally, most administration is carried
out for us under contract locally and even websites are tailored and allowed
to grow to represent the best information for the country or area concerned.
Even joining costs and subscriptions are collected in their own currency be it
Euros, British pounds or Canadian or American dollars.
The international office of the club is in New York City, New York, USA.
This was selected as its location, as in both distance and time zones, it is approximately
the center of the area, in which the club is currently operating and likely to
for the next few years. It is service providers, rather than members, that need to
be able to communicate regularly with the international office, as members and
enquiries are better dealt with by local arrangements.
The exact range of services we are able to offer will vary from country to
country, depending on the commissioned support we have available, and the needs
locally. Over time more services and options will be added. To see what is going
on now in various countries please select one of the country buttons on the top
of this page.
When changes are taking place on local websites or to local services, we
will usually withdraw the page from this site until the change has taken place
to limit the risk of conflicting information. In most cases local sites will
still function during changes taking place and sites will be down for only a day
at most. By February 2005 we should be able to coordinate page updates on this
site with site updates so will no longer have to withdraw pages.
